From the Atlantic coasts of St Lucia and Barbados to Cabarete in the Dominican Republic and Rincón in Puerto Rico, the Caribbean has long been a surfing mecca. For years, legions of thrill seekers have made a beeline for the region to ride the waves, swapping their everyday attire for snug-fitting surf gear.
However, this year the oh-so-cool surfer vibe has made a big splash far from the islands’ top surf spots and given surfwear a couture-meets-cool style update.
On the catwalks of Paris, Milan and New York, fashion houses including Calvin Klein, Michael Kors and Prada incorporated elements of surf style into their SS19 collections. Emporio Armani and Etro even sent models down the runway with branded surfboards.
